It's easy to take yourself a bit too seriously, always thinking you're breaking new ground with MORE because BETTER. But brevity is the soul of wit and sometimes less is more. We're know to crack wise once or twice and we definitely like to have fun around here. So consider this: a Basic Barleywine, but nonetheless buzzworthy. We've name it B-Wizzle. Fo shiz tho. Because if you can't laugh at yourself, you're doing it wrong.

My first review of a beer from Alementary Brewing and likely the last. I read on the internet that a bit over a year ago the brewery announced it was closing. Too much of that lately. A 16 oz can of the curiously named B-Wizzle was obtained from the nice people at Half Time, It always pleases me to get a new barley wine. I am using a snifter from an also-closed Houston brewery for this sampling, can is opened and I pour. The body is a cloudy amber-brown and the head is nonexistent other than a thin line of minute, silvery bubbles wrapping around the glass. I can smell the beer from some distance, there is a healthy amount of extremely ripe fruit, sugar cane and hay. The taste contains no surprises but is decently in-line with your basic barley wine and I call that a good thing. Red plums, cereal, raisins, hard candy and sorghum. Very little carbonation, it's fortunate I'm drinking this beer sooner rather than later. This beer falls somewhere near the middle of my barley wine tasting experiences.
