Somewhere between an ale and lager is Desperation Kölsch. A unique style of beer from Köln (Cologne), Germany brewed to be light and refreshing. Similar, but distinct from our 1802 Cream Ale which uses citrusy, American hops, while our Kölsch features German Tettnang hops for an earthy spiciness and light floral tones. Fermented cool and then rested cold for two weeks gives it some clean fermentation characteristics like a lager with grainy-sweet malt flavors, but light fruity esters (think apples and pears) similar to many ales.

Amber with a medium sized white head. Grainy, yeasty, citric and fruity. Medium finish and body. Better than most in this style.
