A biscuity base of Vienna Malt gives way to dark caramel, chocolate and nutty complexity, followed up by raisin and jammy hedgerow fruits. A slightly dry finish plays with a gentle bitterness from Fuggles and Goldings hops to keep you coming back for more. Seven different specialty malts combine to make this complex but infinitely drinkable Dark Mild.

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. Pours a dark ruby with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma, plus traces of chocolate and bacon. In the mouth it is slightly sweet with a creamy texture with malts and a general fruitiness the main flavours. Hints too of cola, cherries and nuts. A little bitterness in the finish. It’s reasonable.
