Russian Imperial Stout made with smoked jalapeños from McClendon Select and smoked over Arizona mesquite wood, all aged on cocoa nibs (Papa New Guinea and Belize).
Well, well. What sits in front of you, this thick, monstrous, viscous … this is the Russian Imperial Stout. This is the crème de la crème of the beer world. The empress of Russia couldn’t get enough of it. This being the US of freaking A makes this the free world’s style, thus, the American Presidential nomenclature. Catherine the Great would have sat in the Hermitage and asked why jalapeños smoked over Arizona mesquite were used. We say this to CTG: This is ’Merica and this is Wilderness. This is OUR stout. Enjoy — we poured our hearts and souls into this one!

Keg at the 4th Copenhagen Beer Celebration, Session I, 01/05/2015. Extremely dark mahogany brown topped with a moderate tan swirl. Nose is coffee grinds, spice, chocolate, toffee, subtle BA notes. Taste comprises more coffee grinds, light green pepper, chocolate, spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze chase in the close. Decent impy.

Tap at warpigs copenhagen. Pitch dark smooth light brown head. Aroma is chillies herbal from the jalapeños which dominate. A warming roasted malty note is following but with this glass at this temp. All I get Is herbal chilies and alcohol. Flavor is more complex , roasted malts licorice wood full palate of rlavor notes but it was served way too chilled imo. I also get English licorice in the flavor. It really unfolds with temperature. Aroma not so much. The flavor is very complex and the jalapeños do not take over but just add depth to an already really nice complex flavor. Ends roasted malty with a complex base of wood licorice and a little hops and chilies.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. Looks quite deep and dark in the glass this but it has a brown shimmer and a lacing beige top. Mildly Bourbon and vanilla sweet in the nose, but it also has a hint of smoked junipers and lots of crackers! "Gjerne" crackers. Really grows in you this nose. It has a lovely lovely flavor. So balanced! Scary to think of that this is a 11 percent imp stout cause it tastes like velvet. It's not hard to pick up the smoke here, but it's so balanced and not overpowering at all lots of dark chocolate and strong roasted malts. Yeah, I'm really impressed. I even get a little chili like fruitiness in the lingering licorice and cocoa aftertaste. Nice - no, I'll go as far as to call this superb! 02.05.2014
