Russian Imperial Stout made with smoked jalapeños from McClendon Select and smoked over Arizona mesquite wood, all aged on cocoa nibs (Papa New Guinea and Belize).

Well, well. What sits in front of you, this thick, monstrous, viscous … this is the Russian Imperial Stout. This is the crème de la crème of the beer world. The empress of Russia couldn’t get enough of it. This being the US of freaking A makes this the free world’s style, thus, the American Presidential nomenclature. Catherine the Great would have sat in the Hermitage and asked why jalapeños smoked over Arizona mesquite were used. We say this to CTG: This is ’Merica and this is Wilderness. This is OUR stout. Enjoy — we poured our hearts and souls into this one!

Keg at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014 - yellow session. 4th beer of the day. I was really pstched for this one. Dark caramel / black coloured pour with a nice tan head. Aroma is big veg, spicy green pepper, oak and dark choc. Flavour is more spicy pepper, veg, unroasted coffee bean, choc and sweet unrefined sugars. Semi-sweet, slightly cloying and lowish carbonation. Disappointed by this TBH. Far too much veg, pepper.

CBC Session 1. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is dry. Rich dark malt with a little coffee bitterness. Tangy dark malts. Mild spice. Dry finish. Nice enough but all these high scores puzzle me.

Draft at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014, Session 1. Pours deep black-brown with a foamy, tan head. The nose is dried, lightly burnt green peppers, herbs, mellow chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with milk chocolate, rounded roast, light mint, sweet pepper, minimal heat. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Nicely balanced on the finish with sweet and oily chocolate character, light bitter burnt earth and baking cocoa. Good one.

Taster on tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration, first session. All black body. Fair beige head. Dark chocolate malts, wood, and dried fruits on the nose. Prominent roasted taste profile, cocoa powder, caramel, dark fruits and spiced together with peaty moments. Fine bodied. Actually quite easy to drink. A really well-crafted beer (02.05.2014).

Very dark, pitch black a finger head. Spicy with jalapeño and peppercorn. lots of vanilla and chocolate but it’s very spicy and this takes away from the awesomeness a bit.
