Hazy deep red-brown beer. Not much of a head. Nice mild red wine nose. Pretty much does what it says on the tin. A malty barleywine with a distinct salty note overlaid by mild but distinct red wine. The red wine gets a little stronger in the aftertaste. Not bad at all. A red wine barrel barleywine is pretty cutting edge for a UK brewer - so bravo!

Bottle sat outside Frank, camper at Harbury Fields campsite, Harbury, Warwickshire, 03.09.11 Quite flat from pour, pours murky brown in colour. I was a little dubious about this as it was dated BBE Dec 2010, however I assumed it would still be ok being a 9% Barley Wine. However it was far from great, little bit too much sourness, flavour’s were all a bit of a mess really and I couldn’t finish it. Will try again at some point. A5 A2 T3 P2 Ov8 2.0

Courtesy of madmitch76, thanks Ken. Pours hazy deep copper with thin off white head. The aroma is funky barrel tartness with hints of dark fruit and sweet malts off in the background. The taste is similar with out of place funky tartness slipping into a sour note as well as faint beer-ness thinly rimmed around these odd barrel notes.

Hazy deep amber with a medium beige head. Aroma had tannins, wood, dried fruits, brett, roasted malt and caramel. Dry flavour with brett, tannins, roasted malt, dried fruits and leather. Finished dry. Interesting.

Tasting at Papsø
Cloudy dark amber color. A lot of Bretts in the aroma, and I don’t think this is wanted; feet and cheese too. Sweetish caramel flavor, sourish, light Bretts astringency; the final is also lightly sour; there is also a light presence of yeast and vegetables. Unfortunately something’s wrong; no matter what the barrel ageing was supposed to do, this beer is not pleasant.

Bottled. A very hazy dark amber beer with a thin light tan head. The aroma is powerful and has strong notes of fruit and caramel as well as notes of alcohol, wood, and brettanomyces. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of brettanomyces, wood, wine, caramel, and some alcohol, leading to a dry brett finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

33 cL bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. Pours cloudy orange with a fully gone head. Aroma is citric, wooden, barnyard and brett. Sweet, slight citric and dry barnyard. Dry and yet fruity flavoured into the far finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours amber with a slight haze and a small, rough off-white head. Leathery, Bretty nose. Medium body, overripe fruit and astringent, leathery Brett. Some lactic acid underneath. Dry and bitter finish. Odd and infected I guess. 010410

Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Cloudy brown pour with an off white head which soon vanishes. Sour, fruity aromas. Some toffee and caramel in there too. Flavours of caramel, prunes, raisins, quite vinous. Very warming alcohol. Quite an earthy, dry finish.
