On October 13, 2007, at our Brewery Tenth Anniversary Party (Waffles and Puppets) we introduced Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout to the world. Chocolate Indulgence comes with a thick tan head of foam resting on top of the rich onyx-colored liquid. The aroma immediately speaks of dark chocolate and dark malts. The gentle herbal nose of Perle hops compliments the darker notes, making the beer savory to the senses.

The taste continues with the intense Belgian dark chocolate gliding across the tongue; starting sweet up front but giving way to rich cocoa flavors at the back. Through it all, a subtle fruitiness from our special Belgian yeast gives the beer brightness otherwise foreign to a beer style normally associated with gray foggy skies.

I indulged, and it was amazing. I am a huge fan of chocolate beers and this is one of the best I have tasted. Had it on tap at Rattle and Hum in NYC during Craft Beer Week 2009. Poured pitch black with a strong beige, fluffy head that never subsided. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Taste: miraculous. Notes of chocolate on the front and back ends, along with strong coffee and mild caramel flavors. Velvety smooth and rich like pudding. This was a great beer.

Draught at the New York Wine and Culinary Center. Deep pitch black with a root beer float head. Aroma of cocoa and Belgian yeast. Slightly funky flavor with bitter dark chocolate; dry and powdery, with just enough sweetness and a bitter, slightly sour finish. An interesting Belgian style stout, though not quite there.

Black color, small head. It tastes more like a bottom fermented dark beer in dirty water than anything else. A lot of roasted malt; dry. Not good.
