At a tasting, smallish ehad, clear deep yellow colour, aroma of white fruits, cereals, honey cake and a hint of vanila, strong honey and fruity sweetness with a hint of bread, feels much more alcoholic then its ABV would suggest. Feels like a european strong lager.

18/03 0.5 l fliptop bottle from Bier-Spezialitäten-Laden. It poured golden body with medium sized head that didn’t live for too long. Sweet malty and alcoholic nose. Sweetish malty and grainy flavor which is also slightly alcoholic. Infinitely simple. Medium bodied. Sweetish and alcohol bitterness in the finish. Has some fine characteristics, which built up this score, but generally it’s so boring you’ll easily forget it after another two beers.

swing top bottle 500ml. -Courtesy of and shared with Doggythedog/heavy who brought it from Berlin (thanks!)
Clear golden coloured, small white head, sweet nose with touch of alcohol. The taste is also sweet and alcoholic with notes of grain and herbs. Hint of glue in sweetish finish. Average.

Flip-top bottle (Bierzwerg, BB 10/2010)
Deep golden color, decent off-white head. Sweet malty nose has hints of banana, pineapple and iron. Crisp carbonation. Medium-bodied, but quite thin palate. Sweetish fruity notes (banana, pear), grainy maltyness, light alcohol. Straightforward European strong lager, not really a doppelbock.

Bottle from Bier-Spezialitäten-Laden, shared with heavy and ogivlado. Poured a golden body. Grain and alcohol dominate the sweet nose. Malty taste, some alcohol. Simple but not too offensive. Bitterish aftertaste. The mouthfeel is soft and that saves it from ESL or malt liquor categories. Or not, doesn’t differ much actually from a better ESL. Still, had worse.

Clear golden with a large off white head. Malty aroma with caramel and mild hops. Flavour was sweet with caramel, malt and grassy hops toward the end. Finished first sweet and then bitter.

Bügelverschlußflasche: golden, visible carbonation, smaller, slowly collapsing white head; moderate sweet grainy and bisquity nose, completed by herbal hops and a tinge of alcohol; moderate to solid sweetish-bitter flavour, medium bodied; sweet, slightly spicy, but mild hoppy finish. Quite simple, but well quaffable Heller Doppelbock.......
