Our California Amber takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. However, it’s the American hops that give this ale a distinct bite and floral aroma that have earned it just about every major beer medal.

Bottle @ EBF 2008. Amber body with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, some caramel, peaches and grapefruit. Flavor is sweet malt, some caramel and a citrus fruity bitterness, exactly like the aroma. Nice, refreshing balanced, quaffable and almost to nice.

On cask at Ballast Point during the RBSG Pub Crawl Tour on 08/01/2008. Clear dark amber body with a large creamy light tan head. Big floral hop aroma. Light caramel and floral hop flavor. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

Cask. Dry-hopped with Amarillo. Rich amber beer with a dark cream colored head. Big summer fruit aroma with light roasty, nutty malts. Caramel flavor with big summer fruits. Medium-light bodied. Summer fruit lingers with light malt and a light nuttiness.

From tap at San Clemente. Pours deep golden orange with a lacing white head. Solid hoppy and light wooden aroma. Flavour dry and breadish yet with a nice hoppy flavour on top. Dense malty finish with a lingering hoppy spiced finish with a nice dry bitterness into the far finish.

Deep amber with medium amberish head, very dense. Outspoken C-hops, hopcake, caramel, well balanced nose. Hoppy, bitter, hopcake, bit of orangemarmalade; ends metallic. Very slick and well-bodied. Nice amber ale, almost an IPA.

tap at the brewery - Pours amber and smells pretty hoppy for an amber ale. I see ratebeer has it as an ESB. hmm... ok. Again I’m not sure we should differ from what the experienced brewers think their beer is. But anyway.... the flavor has caramel malt and ample hops that give it a touch of citrus. It’s fairly light and smooth and has an excellent balance. Overall it’s a good session brew.

on tap-pours a big creamy light tan head and amber/copper color. Aroma is nice grapefruit hops-slight bitter, secondary medium malt-caramel. Taste is nice grapefruit hops, secondary medium malt-caramel, roasty. OK/mild carbonation.
