Our California Amber takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. Aroma of malt, citrus and a bit of vanilla. Seems floral. Copper color with a vigorous beige head. Starts a bit thin, with malt quickly followed by citrus hop. Somewhat creamy. The citrus accompanies the malt through the finish. Really nice ESB.

Bottled. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet hoppy on a back ground of malt and berries. The flavor is sweet malty and quite hoppy, the hops giving it notes of both grapefruit and straw, and makes the end quite bitter.

2005 bomber from Herbjones, thanks Bob! Consumed on 11/19/05. Deep auburn-amber and clear. Low to moderate head retention on the off-white/beige head. Smells fruity and hoppy (oranges, light cherries). Clean yeast. Touch of spiciness and then poorly expressed, hard-feeling crystally malts. Begins with a fair amount of fruitiness and some medium-dry caramel. Light touch of sour, munich-like grains and moving towards a mix of softly citric hops and deeply toasted grains. Medium to medium-light body. Comes across quite dry, but not exactly undermalted. Light hop complexity. Very similar to the Avery ESB I just had, and in general, this company seems fairly similar to Avery (going on their low gravity beers that I have had). Rather hard, no yeast apparency, quite filtered. But the carbonation is not heavy. Little touch of wateriness, and some spotty lacing (very minor).

This pours a clear deep amber body with a big sticky off white head. Nutty malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor balanced, with hops playing a minor role in this one. Well done and very enjoyable brew! Thanks to Foolish_Mortal for sending this one!
