Our California Amber takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. However, it’s the American hops that give this ale a distinct bite and floral aroma that have earned it just about every major beer medal.

Aroma has gooseberry bush, some grainy malt, citrus and resin. Also some sewer‐like element. Flavour has biscuits, some resin, gooseberry bush and hints of caramel. Feels a bit sticky, probably a bit past its prime.

Pours dark amber with a white head. Aroma of berries, some fruity notes, floral hops and hints of caramel. Taste is sweetish with some fruity hops, berries and hints of caramel. Finish is slightly bitter and fruity, slight hints of citrus and berries. Okay, quite basic but well balanced amber ale.

On tap at Money Plays. Pours a dark amber with thick creamy white head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is caramel malt. Medium mouthfeel with light hop and raisin malt with a light bitter finish. Very good amber and easy to drink from Ballast Point.

This beer is a clear dark copper-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of caramel malt, mild hops and citrus. Light-bodied with a moderately hoppy character and notes of fruit, sweet malt and caramel. The finish is sweet bready malt up front with a lightly hopped aftertaste. Decent overall.

Hazy amber beer. A little malt on the nose. Airy palate, a little dry and with a soft edge. Well balanced. Caramel malt giving way to pokey hops. Finishes with light creamy malt and a bitterish finish.

Bottle. Clear deep amber color with a medium beige head. Nice floral hops aroma with notes of pine needles and grapefruit and some cookie hints. Bitter piney, slightly earthy, hoppy flavor with some grapefruit and some caramelly and biscuity maltiness (but not a lot of sweetness). Pleasant lingering spicy bitter finish. Medium-bodied. A good hoppy amber ale.
