Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

22 oz. bottle, pours a dark ruby red/brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is berries, plum, toffee, caramel malts and hops. Flavour is a mixture of these, with a boozy, harsh palate. Could use some time to mature but it's quite good for the moment.

Sampled at the January β10 Metro Detroit tasting. Thanks to whoever brought this! Poured a cloudy brown with an orange hue and minimal head. Aroma was full of sweet malts with a bit of booze. Flavor was a smooth combo of booze and malts (toffee). A bit of hops present in the finish.

Bottle at Chrisoβs Kook Tasting 09. Hazy chestnut colour, lasting beige head. Slightly sour hoppy aroma. Lots of citurs. I liked it, a bit hot on the alcohol, some barley sugar. OK hops. Really drinkable. 3.4/5.0 re-rate bottle from CP&K bin end drunk at home. Toffee and big American hop aroma. Hops may have died off a bit on the aroma cos of age, but still really present on the swallow and the finish. Bit of burnt toffee. Likeable.

Bottle, 22oz. This beer really delivers the goods. It looks nice in the glass, with its hazy, reddish body under a small, creamy beige head, and the aroma is just the way it should be. Sweet, meaty maltyness with some alcohol and loads of citrusy hops. The flavor is also quite sweet and beefstocky, but leaving plenty of room for the hops. Resin, pine cones and citruspeel and of course a good bitterness to combat the sweetness. Full-bodied and with a certain warmth. The finish is of the lasting, bitter kind. A lovely blend of sweetness and bitterness. 090724

Bottled vintage 2008.
Clear copper color, small beige head. Bready, some citrus and hops in the nose. Bready, sweaty hoppy, some licorice, alcohol, long bitterness. More like double IPA than barley wine ... or maybe Bigfoot-like.

Courtesy of Cartdan. pours brown, beige head and nice golden lacing. aroma and taste, malty, strong caramel notes with cereal presence. Light citrus hops add some faint notes of bitterness followed by the caramel. Palate has notes of dry dark fruits followed by warming abv.

Bottle pours a slightly hazy deep caramel color witha short lived tan skin of a head. Big sweet brown sugar aroma with a little furniture polish and tanned leather. Flavor is more bitter, less sweet than many of the style. The bitterness is very powerful and overshadows the sweet malts that I expected. Strong alcohol component and rather fumey. Strong burn on re-entry. Iβd like to try another in case there was something wrong with this one.
