Sampled 12/23/2008 2008 Vintage received in trade from RickSawyer, Thanks for the opportunity. Pours a slightly cloudy deep orange amber with reddish highlights when held to light. Fluffy 2 finger Beige head sticks itself to the glass going down. Smells of citrus and resin, caramel and biscuit. Slight earthy wood aroma as well. Very malty taste, more of an earthy woody taste with some orange and pine in there. Dry finish. Very little lingers in the end. Mouthfeel is oily/creamy Body is medium, carbonation is ample. This is a really good Barley wine, not cookie cutter like some of the others I’ve tried lately.

Tap at PB Tap Room. Dark clear brown color, little head. Aroma and flavor of caramel, pretty much your standard sweet and syrupy barleywine, with the addition of a decent bitter finish. Not bad.

2009 vintage. Pours brownish red with no head. Quite unique, almost British Barley Wine type of taste with hints of raisin. Alcohol burns a bit too much. Overall a well aged barley wine.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Dark reddy orange pour with a nice looking tan head. Nose was caramel malt heavy with some hop presence and notes of brown sugar and fruits. Similar story in the flavour, sweet and a little sticky with the hoppage turned up considerably. Lingering and very bitter finish.I enjoyed this but it seemd to become increasingly more of a one trick pony towards the end of the bottle.

Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a strongish head. The aroma is very rich and roasted, and the flavour is very, very bitter and very well hopped and roasted. Overall a quality strong beer.

2009 Vintage. Pours with a pretty amber to ruby body and a lasting khaki colored head. Good lace, slight alcohol legs. Powerful aroma. Starts of as berries and toffee, tons of caramel, a nice brandy-alcohol note, light oxidation already, but very pleasant. Very rich and pleasant. Oh yeah, this was $5.50 for a bomber of 10.9% beer that smells like this? Hellyeah! Flavor is big, sweet, sticky, brandy notes up front. Toffee and fig finish. Long duration, decent burn. Good deal of bitterness still evident, but no real hop flavor. Creamy carbonation. Quite nice.

A good barleywine with a bit too little flavor to properly mask the alcohol. It’s a nice color for a barleywine. There is some mistiness looking through the snifter and a pretty good head. The nose is floral and sweet. The flavor is caramel with a strong alcohol presence. There is a great hop flavor with a good bitterness. The hops are mostly grapefruit with the aforementioned floral notes. The beer has a pretty good feel for a barleywine, but the alcohol is a bit dominant to enjoy for too long. It could certainly improve with age.
