Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Bottle (2010 Vintage) shared at The Kernel during Marioβs last stand. Pours clear amber with a foamy, yellow-beige head. Caramel, booze, leaves, grass and ripe fruits in the nose. Pretty classic, really. Strong flavor, lots caramel, booze-soaked fruits, cherries, raisins, read, cake, and still some sticky, bitter pine and grass. Also some toasted sugar. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warm finish with light alcohol sting, tons of toasty sugar, caramel, ripe fruits, more grass and pine. Big, classical American barley wine. Good one.

2010 Bottle, originally from CP&K, I think. It pours red, with a thick yellow head. The nose is tinned fruit, pear, varnish, pine and cinnamon bun. The taste is resin, pine, good bitterness, orange, caramel, toffee, gingerbread and cinnamon bun, with a bitter-sweet finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Well balanced and smooth. A really good American Barley Wine.

Sample from a several years-old bottle at the Strange Brew Tasting on 02/18/2012. Label has the word "Vintage" with no year after it. Pours a clear auburn color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, hops and dark fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of sweet toasty malt, caramel, ripe fruit and some pine. The finish is rich and malty with a lingering piney hops aftertaste. Good beer overall.

Sample at Alquitara. Brown colour with a good formation os tan head, creamy, frothy, nice lacing. Aroma has floral hops notes, resins and moderate malty. Flavour is slightly sweet at the beginning, moderate malty, alcoholic and a final moderate bittery. Good balanced. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high. Texture is oily. This beer is next to be an IPA or Imperial IPA than a Barley Wine.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a nice pine hop and thick earthy malts. Flavor is a very heavy caramel malt with some dry dark fruit and piney hop. Finish leaves some char on the tounge along with a warming alcohol. A decent American hoppy barleywine.

Bottle @ home. Somewhat cloudy, brownish orange appearance with a light brown head and pretty good lacing. Pretty rich caramel malty, floral, somewhat piney hoppy aroma. Pretty floral and earthy hoppy, somewhat rich caramel/toasty malty flavor with a floral aftertaste. Definitely drinkable but Iβm not digging the floral-like hop character. I would like to say that it is definitely smooth for the 11% abv, which is really only noticeable at the end of the finish.

22 oz bomber from De Bierkoning. Pours a nice red brown color with big beige head. Strong aromaβs of piney, resinous hops, red fruit, sweet (caramel) malt, some alcohol. Flavor is bitter and somewhat sweet. Pretty strong alcohol feel. Long, bitter finish. Lovely, US style barley wine.
