Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Bottle. Brewdog, Leeds. 2013. Clear, burnished copper colour. Has a film of slow moving, thin, beige head. Leggy, and viscous. Dense, dank, boozy, surprisingly hoppy aroma. Toffee malts. Ointment. Petrol. Flora. Oily herb. Spice. Heady, and full. Drinks all of that. It’s oozy, chewy, oily, and very tasty. Finishes long, spicy dry, and spicy bitter. Big beer, yet easy drinking.

65 cl. bottle - 2012 "Vintage" - poured in to a Snifter. Slightly hazy amber colour with orange hues. Sweet aroma with rich caramel malts, resin, oranges, lightly toasted malts - the richness is balanced by grapefruit and citrus hops. Some alcohol. Taste is sweet - and well balanced - the best feature for this beer. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Long lasting drying finish with rich malts, toast and fruits. Pretty straightforward American Barley Wine.

Californian barley wine with a big hop dosis, making it somewhat akin to the famed West Coast IPAs. Yellowish white, regular, stable head, colour an orangey bronze, hazy. Complexely and attractively perfumed aroma of honey, madera, chocolate, sweet tobacco, tonic water, grapefruit peel, pineapple, white pepper, papaja... One of those delightful aromas I could sniff for hours. Exotic fruits in the mouth, citrus peel, soft and very agreeable nutty malts, spicy, peppery and resinous hoppiness in the finish, drying, cloying in a pleasant way, with a warming, brandy-like alcohol effect as any good barley wine should have. Very American in style and very enjoyable; I have no doubts that this has a great ageing potential too.

Location: Bomber brought back from TapNY and shared by my buddy Dan, 6/27/14
Aroma: The nose is full of caramel, heavy malty, with some hoppy and boozy notes as well
Appearance: It pours a darker amber color with a creamy beige colored head
Flavor: It tastes much the same, heavy malty, strong caramel, boozy, and a little hop bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly full, with a good bit of heat, and a long and strong finish
Overall Impression: I was actually shocked I hadn't rated this one before, so I wrote down a review. I have a comfortable respect for this beer, as I think it is well-made, but it doesn't quite work for me. Still, solid stuff.

2013 Bottle, enjoyed Feb ’14. Bright auburn pour with nice depth. A thick finger of creamy beige head and light lacing. Nose is sweet and sturdy. Caramel, florals, toffee, and faint chocolate. Similar in the taste, but more emphasis on the floral hops. Rich and decadent, but without the overt sweetness sometimes used to add weight. I guess what I’m trying to say is the focus on hops and caramel malts is well executed and fully appreciated.
