Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

Fin duft av druer. Fin rødbrun farge. Hengende skum langs kant. Fin frisk smak av druer med en litt syrlig ettersmak.

Bottle bought some place I can’t remember. 2012 vintage. Pours dark copper brown with a frothy beige head that leaves lots of sticky trace and lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and tiny earthy with caramel, sweet dark bread, resinous wood, moist grass, alcohol, toffee, pine needles, grapefruit rinds, orange peal, moist soil and hints of dark honey. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty, herbal and earthy with sweet dark bread, caramel, prominent alcohol, toffee, citrus peal and zest, golden syrup, dark honey, pine needles, freshly cut grass, resin, burnt sugar and soil. Mouthfeel is round, tiny sticky sweet, oily bitter, boozy, astringent and near full bodied. Finish is heavy bitter and earthy with sweet dark bread, caramel, alcohol, grapefruit rinds, pine needles, resinous wood and soil. A punch in the face that makes you want to turn the other cheek.

Bottle - Hoppy, earthy and sweet malts. Clear amber with little head. Tastes just like a concentrated west coast IPA.

Bottle, thanks Eddan. Slightly hazy dark red with a small head. Sweet with dried fruit, hops, malt, toffee and some citrus. Some warming alcohol in the finish. I kind of liked this one.

Nose: Classic American barley wine -Loads of creamy toffee, sugar, undercut by lime(ish) hops. Taste, is brown sugar, plums, leading to burnt toffee, slight caramel, cream, then a resin citrus finish with a little smoke. Mouthfeel is silk. A glorious barley wine.

Poured a copper-amber color with a large white head. Aroma was lots of citrus notes, grapefruit character. This is a well hopped barleywine. Flavor is lots of citrus, sweet light malt notes, caramel, toffee, and plenty of booze.

Two small tasting cups at Cotteridge Wine during the 6th July RB Black Country Bus Trip (sorry if I stole someones cup, but I needed two to rate/review it correctly). Impressed: poured a good clear amber, on top a white crown of uneven foam. Intense semi-sweet malty aroma: caramel and toffee notes leading the way. Taste is also semi-sweet (at first) before the hop content kicks in and you finish with a fine bitter and dry mouth. Nice Barley Wine and thanks to Cotteridge Wine for the free tasting.
