(Draught at Bryden’s, Dec 9 2013) Pours a dark slightly reddish brown with a small white head, no lace. Aroma is extremely cherry-forward. Reminds me of cherry pie filling, seemed to have a bit of other (darker?) berry fruit character, maybe a bit of orange rind, sweet with a slight tang. Flavour really followed the nose, big sweet cherry character up front, malts providing sweetness but fruit providing flavour. A little bit of yeast mid to finish, slight tart tang, vaguely citrusy, a little brown sugar. Really cherry-heavy all the way through. Body medium, carb moderate but not as effervescent as most traditional takes. This beer really was all about the cherries. It’s still good - at least a small glass’ worth, but it was not as complex as it could be. I often have that feeling about dubbels anyway. Cherry quad next, guys?
