Yosemite’s Mist Trail is quite possibly the most popular trail in California, which would place it high in the running for most popular worldwide. How’s that for Cali-centrism? The Mist Trail is the gateway to the High Sierra backcountry, and it’s the first leg for those hell-bent on summitting Half Dome. The brutal three mile climb takes you past Vernal and Nevada Falls, which blanket the trail in its eponymous mist as you negotiate the slick steps and rip rap that WPA workers laid during the black and white New Deal almost a century ago.
