We threw our first Octoberfest festival here at the brewery in 1990 – it was actually inside the brewery, amidst the tanks. We can’t do that so much anymore (there were about 18,000 people at our last Octoberfest), but we still love having everyone here for our Octoberfest each fall. Come join us this year!
Harpoon Octoberfest is a malty tribute to fall, balanced by a gentle hop bitterness. In keeping with tradition, it is a Marzen-style beer, brewed with abundant quantities of Munich, Chocolate, and Pale malts. Those malts provide a solid, full body and create the beer’s deep color. It is a rich, flavorful beer.

Bottle. Glowing amber with a fine, low, bubbly head. Nutty, malty nose, caramal, earthy, with cereals. Malty, grainy flavor, with a bit of cherry, an earthy bitterness, and a rather pronounced bitterness in the finish. Much more than usual for the style. A bit light in body. Clean and drinkable, though a bit unexciting.

Bottle. Pours an amber with a medium frothy off white head that lasts awhile leaving good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a bready malt and cereal. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet malt and toast with a spice in the finish. Easy to drink, a decent marzen from Harpoon.

12oz bottle pours crystal clear copper with thin loose off white head. The aroma seems to be dates, caramel malts and lagery yeastiness. The taste is similar with dates, caramel malts, a modest level of cherries and sweet lageriness with a decent level of winter spices swirling around the periphery.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful coppery amber with a dense head that sits about one finger high. Aromas are thickly sweet and earthy... a bit of caramel/toffee, some nuts and just a little bit of spice. Flavor has a very pronounced nut presence, but unfortunately has a bit of vegetable rot in the finish and a watery midsection.

12 oz bottle courtesy of mcox90. Best by 01/15/09. Pour is clear ruby golden with a 2 inch dirty white head. Head falls slow with nice lacing. Aroma grassy sweet caramel, and a pleasant mustiness. Taste is the nose, nice of grassy hay, with calm caramel sweetness and a slightly earthy finish. Palate is medium-thin, drinkable with a dry-ish finish. Nice one, thanks for sending it my way Michael!
