Said to be hoppier than a hopping mad hopi, our rather good Doctor Okell's takes the 200 year old tradition of the strong India Pale Ale to its ultimate, thanks to one of Dr Mike's finest brewing moments...

Doctor Okell's is an extremely light coloured beer with a surprising full bodied taste. The sweetness is offset by a very strong hopping rate. That gives the finished beer an over all roundness with very spicy lemony notes and a fine dry finish to counteract the initial sweetness.

Ingredients: All pale ale malt, hops, 1st Fuggles and First Gold, 2nd Hallertau and Saaz, 3rd Cascade and Styrian Goldings.

Clear golden beer with a thick white head. Light lemony aroma. Taste is more bitter and acidic. Could do with a bit more punch but itโ€™s pleasant enough and hit the spot sitting in the sun as I was.

Cask pint: hand-pulled in The Castle Arms, Castletown Isle of Man on 10th April 2015. Sat in the sun drinking this overlooking the small harbour and quayside: hard not to enjoy a beer when the view is so interesting. Anyway, it came a pale amber/golden colour with a full white crown on top. Mild maltiness in the nose, tempered by a slight citrus whiff. Tasted lightly malted with again a citrus hint within its make-up. Not a huge fan of golden beers with a citrus feel, but this didnโ€™t upset me like some do. Location and occasion helped itโ€™s cause.

Cask @ Manchester & County, Manchester. Blond with a bubbly head. Has a dryish pale ale texture and taste mainly hops involved but thereโ€™s some malt here too.

Tried at the Royal Hop Pole JDW Tewkesbury. Pale golden colour with a slight haze. Thin but creamy white head. Aroma has a touch of citrus hop, taste has too. Nice beer not really and IPA, and not a traditional bitter.

Cask handpump at the moon under water Watford. Aroma is grassy, spruce trees, English yeast esters and a bit of soapy lemon. Very clear golden coloured pour with a thin sticky white head. Flavour is crisp, grassy, a little astringent, tangy citrus in the end. A little thin and grainy on the tongue. Lingering spicy hop. A pretty typical English IPA.

Cask @ Falcon's Nest in Port Erin. Smooth and fresh beginning. Nice flowery hops together with a mild and smooth fruitiness. Deep and smooth. Slightly sweet in the end with a moderate bitterness and lots if floral hops. And extremely smooth! Great beer!
