Aorta Ale is a Double Red Ale with bold flavors of Cascade hops and sweet malt, and a dark reddish-brown color. Subtle aromas of candy, brown sugar, and toasted malt are released from the depths of this full-bodied beast. Raisins, figs, and burnt caramel are among the sweeter and more forward flavors found in Aorta Ale. This brew finishes with a roasted cocoa like bitterness which is magnified by the high alpha hops.

Bottle @ ZZT 9 thanks to Abijen. Murky dark orange color, small beige head. Aroma of malts, a touch of honey, some sweetness. Taste malts, lightly bitter, lightly hops. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.

12oz bottle pours a clear garnet red with some creamy, white head. Nose is nice, apples, malt, caramel, appealing. Flavor is the same, malty, sweet, fall fruit, caramel, light biscuit. Medium bodied, sweet finish.

12oz bottle from Timbo
Appearance: Pours clear dark ruby with a small off-white head, good lacing
Aroma: Sweet caramel, toasted malts, nutty and pine
Taste: Caramel, pine, earthy, metallic with a bitter grapefruit peel finish
Can’t say I liked this one, sweet up front but finishes harsh and bitter.

12 oz bottle. Pours a reddish amber with an orangey off-white head. Pine and grapefruit aroma backed by a caramel sweetness. Pine and citrus hoppiness moving into grassiness, lighter background of toasted malts, sharp alcohol-tinged sweetness. Pretty solid.

12oz bottle pours clear garnet with tan head of foam. The aroma is thick with clouds of various roasted and crystal malts and then getting earthy and pine and nutty all at the same time. The taste supports the aromatics with a pleasing and rich variety of roasted malts, sweet nuttiness, crystal malts and some chocolate malts too. It seems to pick up additional notes like slivers of burnt malts around the edges that are woven within the malts and ribbons of pine hoppiness. If you are looking for tons of malts this is for you.

Draft at Reno’s, East Lansing, sometime in the near past. Deep ruddy body, thick creamy, puffy beige head. Resinous nose with big citrus rind and pulp, sweet, bitter, and tannic, with notes of tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, and papaya), caramel, and brown sugar. Fleshy. Very sweet body with tropical fruits and tangerine rind, tobacco, raisin, berries, and grain; tannic and hot. Hints of Cheerios and cereal box. The overall impression is cloying, with the sweetness and sticky hops resins burying the palate after a few ounces. That said, it was a somewhat favorable cloying.

Cloudy red brown beer. Decent creamy head. Softish palate. Nice soft malt shot through with powerful hops that have a sweet pineapple and grapefruit flavour but also impart good bitterness. Finishes light and dry with more malt and a little minerals and aniseed. Very well joined up tasty beer.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Steve, Pours a deep red color with a medium tan head. The aroma is rich musty malts. A sweet dry caramel flavor with- actually yes, this tastes a bit like blood, maybe I’m being affected by the name, but really there is metallic bitterness- hops and a odd metal and vegetal flavor. Interesting.
