Aorta Ale is a Double Red Ale with bold flavors of Cascade hops and sweet malt, and a dark reddish-brown color. Subtle aromas of candy, brown sugar, and toasted malt are released from the depths of this full-bodied beast. Raisins, figs, and burnt caramel are among the sweeter and more forward flavors found in Aorta Ale. This brew finishes with a roasted cocoa like bitterness which is magnified by the high alpha hops.

Bottle. Poured hazy amber with an off-white head that had a yellow hue and lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a combination of caramel and biscuit with a bit of a backing pine note. Flavor started with pine but was quickly over taken by the malt profile consisting of caramel, cookie and biscuit.

Bottled. Deep bloodred ambery colour, thick creamy off-white to beige head. Aroma is sweet plum, some caramel malts, mild spices, red berries and fruits. Flavour is spices, floral and fruity hops along with some berries, spruce and also some sweet maltyness. Bitter, semidry palated finish. Interesting and rather drinkable.

courtesy of the Shorts tasting night group. early ’07 bottle. bottle#575 pours golden-reddish haze with beige head. Aroma is mainly of citrus hops, a big hoppy nose that is surprisingly strong for an ’07 bottle. Flavor, lots of citrus, grapefruit and strong hoppy presence as well as a light bitter finish. Malt profile is there with hints of caramel but remains overshadowed by a ton of hops. Not bad, but my least favorite beer of this 13 beer serie.
