A copper coloured, easy drinking beer. Well balanced malt and hop flavours continue to a long, refreshing and clean finish.
Ingredients:-
92% Maris Otter pale ale malt, plus crystal & chocolate malts in the mash tun.
English Fuggles & Goldings hops in the copper.
Late addition Styrian Goldings in the hop-back for aroma.

Cask (handpump) @ Great British Beer Festival, GBBF 2008, Earls Court, London, England SW5.Clear light to medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, malt, moderate toffee, buttery notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. (080808)

Cask at GBBF08. OK fruity aroma. Clear copper colour. Good fruitiness in the flavour, well balanced by rough hoppiness.

Cask@GBBF2008. Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is nectary, very sweet wooden and has some hints of fudge and mild notes of sap. Flavour is sweet fruits, yeast, wood and mild hints of hops.

Cloudy amber with off white head. Sweet peachy aroma with hints of caramel. Swwet flavor with caramel and fruity notes. Ends sweet.

[First rate - 10/5/2008, on cask at The Stag, Flackwell Heath, Bucks. RB6/3/6/3/12] Nothing like an IPA - this is a best bitter, but not a bad one. Strong maltiness dominates, with more than a hint of red fruits in there. The usual Goldings musty straw flavour comes through in the aftertaste. Vibrant flavours considering the low ABV. [Second rate - 15/6/2018, on cask at Wycombe Swan. RB6/3/7/3/13] Amber with a white head. Toffee and red fruits with a mild earthy bitterness. Good malt base. Tastier than I remember. Enjoyable. Rating is the average of all rates.

[i] Cask at Merton Summer Beer Festival, September 2004 [/i] Going back through my travel log and Merton Beer Festival information tonight and picking up those that escaped entering first time around. Pours copper in colour (like the description states) bit too wishy washy for an IPA but fine enough for a session ale if a little unexciting.

Cask at The Bell, Nottingham: clear amber with a long lasting white head; biscuity aroma, balanced malt/hop taste with some fruit. As others have said, not an IPA, but a good session bitter.

Cask gravity Notts BF 05. This beat both the Brewsters Hophead and Nottingham Rock Bitter in the SIBA bitter category, although I thought the other 2 were better. Deep copper colour. Nice hop/caramel. Not a lot of fruit. Caramel in mouth, with hoppy finish. Quite dry, bit tangy, bit of choc. Nice understated hop.

[Cask at Volunteers Arms GBBF 2004] A clear orange beer with no head. The aroma is very hoppy, but a little sour, which must be the "lack" of alcohol. The flavor is very dry hoppy with a slightly sweet background combined with notes of caramel. The end is slightly sour - probably because of the lack of alcohol.

Sampled cask conditioned at Oliver Twist, Stockholm.
Amber colour. Flowery nose. Dry and hopy. Medium to light bodied. Well rounded. Nice, lingering bitter finish. An uncomplicated enjoyable IPA, very much in the British style.
