Half-pint, shared with Finn. Solid lacing from a tiny white head, black in the glass. Slightly roasted malt-forward aromas with hints of chocolate, attractive. Fine balanced taste of dark bread, oatmeal, ash, and chocolate with a backdrop of coffee. Choco-coffee ending. Medium bodied. Well crafted. (Liverpool, 12.02.2025).

Cask at the St Albans beer festival 2024. A clear nut brown coloured pour with a loose beige head. Aroma is semi sweet nutty earthy roast, mild roasted malts, umami. Palate is semi sweet, light, mellow cask condition. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty roast, earthy, slight salt, savory, toffee. Not bad.

Cask at Telford’s Warehouse, Chester. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small cream head and good lacing. It was served far too cold, so difficult to tell anything about the taste. However… Traces of oats and roast malts in the aroma. In the mouth it has a creamy texture and is slightly sweet. Roast malts and some hints of chocolate – which get stronger as it progresses. Rerate is required.

Foamy tan head stayed on a dark reddish brown body. Malt, biscuit & treacle aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & lively on the back. Malt, biscuit, treacle & berry tastes with a tangy citrus finish. Good one.

Cask at Grapes. Pours a clear deep amber brown with a tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has earthy dark grains with light roast and a decent amount of earthiness. Flavor combines earthy dark grains, roasted malts and a hint of oyster.

Bottle from the Homebrew Bottle Shop, Oxton in Birkenhead. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Actually, this was a bit of a gusher but I’m putting that down to travelling on 3 trains. Nose - dark chocolate and dry smoke. Light charcoal in fact. Taste - dry chocolate biscuit and a touchpre smoke. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet dry crunchy texture that continues through the finish. Overall - I’d put this into dry stout category.
