A refreshing dark beer! Dark brown with a white head. Roast malt/coffee notes on the nose lead to chocolate-vanilla and prickly hops on the palate. Finish is cleansing and refreshing.

My 500th beer, which is great as this is one of my favourite brewers! On tap @ Teuchtars. Pours a beautiful opaque chestnut with a red hue around the bottom edges of the glass. The nose has chocolate and hazelnuts. The taste has more dark chocolate which softens into cream and then the hazelnuts follow it in. The palate is medium to large in structure, the texture is thick in creamy and it falls away nicely at the end. Overall, a wonderfully sessionable mild ale.

@ Malt & Hops, Leith. Dark brown. Thin head. A deep roasted molasses character with dark fruit accents - a unique and intriguing aroma. Rich, roasty bitterness and a pleasing sweetness as well. Soft, demerara-like, but the rooty bitterness lends it a

Small beige head. Dark red barely translucent body. Roasty dusty chocolate aroma with licorice notes. Dry roasty wooden dusty taste with floral metal notes. Mid-to-thin body. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish earthy roasty aftertaste with burnt wooden notes. Quite nice, but not great. (0.25l cask, Cloisters, Edinburgh.)

Gravicask, taster from the Scottish Bar at GBBF 09. Near-black body, ring of bubbles at the top. Weak dark malty aroma, modestly roasted. Liquorice malts in flavour followed by coffee bitterness. Alright, but feels rather watered and thin in the mouth (Earls Court, London 06.08.2009).
