A refreshing dark beer! Dark brown with a white head. Roast malt/coffee notes on the nose lead to chocolate-vanilla and prickly hops on the palate. Finish is cleansing and refreshing.

Cask at The White Horse Old Ale Festival, London. Pours dark brown with a fine, tan foam head. Burnt toast nose, some char. Light sweet flavor with mild earth, light baking cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Light sweetness to finish with burnt toast and more earth. Good balance overall. Very OK. A pretty classic mild.

Cask at the white horse SW6. It pours very dark brown with a thin off-white head. The nose is roasted malt, light toast, subtle smoke, light vinous notes and caramel. The taste is roasted malt, pretty dry, coffee grinds and subtle caramel with a dry finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. A tasty mild.

Cask @ Abbotsford, Edinburgh
Dark ruby, thin white head, good lacing
Aroma - dark roasted malts, soft espresso, plain chocolate, hint of charcoal
Taste as aroma, background of fruity dark malts, more burnt toast
Palate - soft carb, thinnish body, bit sticky, bitter roast. Finish - bitter roast, dark fruity malts, some burnt crust, too burnt
Overall - Good flavour but finish was too burnt for me

500ml bottle. Clear red glowing darkest brown with small to average, firm, frothy, tan head. Aroma has fruity notes of red and dark berries, dark malty background with hints of chocolate. Taste is initially grainy dark malty, later with mineralic / metallic overtones, then grainy again with grassy and bitter hoppy notes; dry and minimally roasty finish.

(bottle) Clear, dark ruby colour with a brown and short foamy head. Dark malty aroma with earthy notes, liquorice and caramel, accompanied by a subtle berry-fruity touch. Mildly bitter flavour, light bodied with a modest carbonation. Dark malt-character with notes of cacao, liquorice and traces of cassis; quite dry and mildly bitter hoppy finish with hints of dark chocolate and liquorice in the aftertaste. Not far away from the Light Munro. 27.VI.12
