Dead Rise was brewed to highlight the indelible character of Old Bay through bright and refreshing citrus hop notes and a crisp tart finish. Our brewers worked with the spice experts at Old Bay for over six months to develop the recipe and craft a beer that will quickly earn its spot alongside the iconic yellow, blue, and red tin.

$1.90 bottle from Wine Warehouse, CHO. Pours golden with a large white head. Smells of lemon and light grass. Tastes of lemon, grass, light spice - not overly spicy and not obviously Old Bay. Tasty.

GABF 2014. Pours a clear yellow appearance with an off white head. Very spicy beer with Cajun spice notes. There’s some saltiness to the beer as well. There’s a little bit of lemon citrus and moderate bitterness. Strange but not my thing.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall off-white head, looks great. Aroma of pungent belgian yeast, alcohol, grass and hay and a touch of light spices - not much in here though. Light-bodied; Pungent spicey kick at first in the taste with a little grassy hoppiness and a distinct belgian yeast flavour right afterwards with hints of brett. Aftertaste shows a bunch more of the yeast characteristics and a very subtle bridge of the light spices (old bay is noticeable here) coupled with the pungent yeast makes for a complexity not usually seen in a beer this light. Overall, a well-balanced beer - I was expecting spices and I didn’t really get them, but that’s not a bad thing - this is an interesting beer and works well on almost every level. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Falls Church (Tyson’s Corner), Virginia on 10-July-2014 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington on 09-October-2014.

Bottled sample at Whole Foods Charlottesville, 6/21/14. Pours a clear golden color with a thin dense creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of mild old bay, brine, pale doughy malt. The taste is pale malt, briny old bay, green apple, crackery notes. Medium bodied.

An amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light basil, grassy hop. In mouth, a nice fruity caramel malt with loads of basil, mint, grassy hop, oily mouth feel. On tap at Bacon and beer Classic.

12 ounce bottle. Bright straw gold color. Small rocky white head. Fresh lemony malt aroma has notes of old bay spice, most notably bay leaves. Light citrus malt flavor has more Old Bay notes and light spicy hops. Hints of celery seed and bay leaves emerge. Finish is dry and bitter citrus. Unique and tasty.

Draft: Lemon zest, lillies aroma. Hazy amber, thick head good lace. Dill and celery flavor with lillies underneath. Peppery lemongrass flavor. Savory, one of a kind, a trend starter. Nice floral and spicy interplay.

Rake. Keg. Lightly hazy gold beer, small off white head. Palate is minerally crisp and dry. Touch of thin creamy malt. Minty spices, no heat but pretty dry. Whisper of citrus. Finishes dry with a little fresh orange. Minty spice linger. Interesting but the spicy dryness makes it low on drinkability for me.

Keg at the flying dog tap takeover at the rake. Light hazed golden yellow coloured pour with a lasting white head. Aroma is odd mix of orange, earthy, wit yeast esters and some floral lavender. Flavour is clean base malt is slightly salty savoury flavours, some floral notes and earthy citrus bitterness. Lots of subtle delicate flavours. Assertive bitterness lingers on the tongue. Refreshing light palate with highish carbonation. Nice dry finish. Tasty beer.
