After its initial release in February 2009, Top Sail was aged for about 10 months in bourbon casks from Kentucky. This extended aging presents aromas of oak, coconut and bourbon. Deep chocolate flavors warm to a full-bodied beer. Deep black in color, Top Sail Bourbon Aged Imperial Porter has a roasty malt flavor that is immensely drinkable and smooth. Very limited availability in 22oz. bottles and draught. ABV 9.85% IBU 65 [retired march 2009 - mj / unretired Feb 2010 - 5000]

Bottle pours a deep black with a rich tan head. Big sweet bourbon slightly smokey aroma. Some vanilla and amaretto like its Imperial Stout Black Gold. Slightly dweet moderate roasted flavors. A little of the thinner porter palate but silky and smooth. Softly carbonated. Nice dark woody trailer, liike how I imagine a Black Walnut toothpick wood be. Some of the bourbon barrel comes through in the flavor as well, but is subtle and complimentary. Exquisite. Thanks Jordan for sharing one of the 60 bottle to be distributed in the area.
