Armada Ale was one of the first new 'Golden Ales' that emerged in the 1980s. It has a pronounced yet balanced hop character, derived from Fuggle and Golding hops. Originally commissioned by the National Maritime Museum, it quickly established itself as a piece of living history. Robust, refreshing and still a port of call in any beer-drinker's voyage of discovery.

Cask at C4, Odense. Light amber with a small, but lasting white head. Odd grassy flavour, with herbs and green leaves, overwhelming and not entirely pleasant. Dry and very bitter with a some grassy hop flavour and a hint of butterscotch.

Cask@Royal Oak. Pale amber colour, not much head. Aroma is malts, hops, herbs and some spices. Flavour is spicy, malty, hoppy and has some grassy hints in it also. Very pleasantly mixed. aftertaste is mainly herbs and spices.

Cask at the wharf, Aalborg. golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, hop. Flavour is fruit, malt, hop, honey. I don`t like this one.

Cask at the Wharf, Aalborg. Clear, golden ale with a small white head. Weak malty aroma with some hops, but there’s also a papery note. Malty start in the mouth, but then there’s some paper and a weak hoppiness. Thin to medium body. A boring session-style beer. (070331)

Cask at C4, Odense: Golden with fine good & solid head. The aroma is very speciel. a little sour hop smell (Northdown hops I beleive) Flat yet soft body that is a little watery. Fine lacings. Pleasant bitter end!

Cask. Half pint at the Harveys pub Royal Oak, Borough (15.09.2006). Served at room temperature. Dark golden with good clarity. Missing head. Grassy and malty aroma. Flavour of citrus fruit. Nice bitterness. Alright, but not great.

(Cask at Royal Oak, Borough, London 20 Apr 2006) Copper colour with almost no head. Nose is malty, fruity (mandarines) with a nice (yes, nice!) hint of sewage (or is it nuts?). Taste starts rather fruity with hints of apricots and mandarines, develops into a rather sweet maltiness and ends with a dry bitter finish. Nice, complex, and easy to drink.

Cask. Dark golden with a slight haze and a rough off-white head. Discreet aroma of sweet malts and a little caramel. Light-bodied, flat, a little fruit and caramel, some flowery hops leaving a subdued bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and soft. 040211
