Another acquisition from the people at Half Time. This time it is a 500 ml bottle of a Belgian ale and I choose a Delirium chalice to sample the beer in. The appearance is as I hoped it would be, a body that is one shade short of being completely black along with an amber highlight around the edges and a thin but continuous head of parchment tan foam. I smell dark fruit, a considerable amount of grain, floral and malt. A drink now, a sourish cherry beginning, grain again, a touch of floral, dark plums, a vinous influence and earth. I have had a few ales that have had a similar sour backbone and I am not put off by it. I will say that I prefer a traditional Belgian strong ale but can appreciate a departure like this one.
