Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor.
Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red IPA is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Pours with a tremendous head into a tulip. Hoppy -- grass, grapefruit, citrus alka-seltzer. Mounds of head as it dissipates and laces. Very dark -- apple cider appearance. Rind bitterness. Thick, lively, astringent. Long bitter finish.

Hazy orange ale with a thick creamy white head. Pinhey hops with stong sweet citrus aroma. Sweet honey hoppy beer with orangey notes. Rather overhopped in my taste, unbalanced. Medium bodied.

This beer came as part of my beer of the month club. Luckily I am rather fond of pale ales. Sampled from a 12 oz bottle this intriguing brew poured a dark red-brown color. The head was enormous. I tiled the glass to be sure not to make a large one. 1/3 of the glass ended up being beer before I had to stop due to the volcanic eruption of head off of this beer. Thick and creamy the head rose a mountainous 2 inches higher than the edge of the glass and sat there for a good 15 minutes before subsiding enough for me to actually try a taste of the fine elixir beneath. Huge amounts of lacing clung viniously to the sides of the glass as i proceeded to quaff the brew. The aroma was strong and enticed me as I waited for the head to clear. Definite notes of grapefruit and a mild malty undertone drove the scent. Very pleasant odor. The flavor was strong with grapefruit and flowery hops. There was a slight toasted maltiness to the finish. A dry beer which surprised me given the color. Overall a really nice IPA. My only complaint is that the beer was really overcarbonated. While I did not mind so much in the head, the carbonation lingered and interfered with the palate a bit too much for my taste.

Dark copper/bronze coloured body with a large dense tan head. Aroma of floral-fragrant hops with a good balance of malt and little else. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive hoppiness up front of a floral quality, then finishing very clean. Aftertate has some sweetness-but is left very clean and fresh. Overall, a great 'easy-to-drink' IPA, definately worth trying! I bought this 65 cL bottle at Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia and sampled it on 04-January-2004.

2003 bomber. Nice medium dark reddish-amber with some swirling oranges and dark golds. Bottle conditioned, humongous persistent sticky white head. Wonderfully resinous smell, very juicy and floral. Chinooks meld well with the cascades creating a hops aroma that is neither too dominant on spiciness or citrus. Flavor is equally juicy, bursting with hops, huge alpha content, floral, sweet and lightly toasty. Bitterness is high but well-balanced by malt. Very solid offering, nice change of pace back to the traditional American IPA (Ive been getting tired of fuggles lately). Lingering sweet, almost fruity finish and aftertaste. Low acidity, very creamy palate.
2004 bomber Still as good as I remember. There’s just something about Red IPAs and Double Reds that I really like, oh wait, it’s the balance. Imagine that. (I also like cascades and centennials, yes I’m boring).

Rich floral aroma, spice around the edges. Light caramel notes. Pure amber color with full fluffy and rocky beige head. Rich peppery and herbal hops in the palate. Tingly hop presence but coupled with a nicely smooth full malt palate. Caramelized malts dominate the middle with only a light bitterness in the finish. A general acidic earthiness skirts the sides of the tongue. This is my ideal IPA.

Dark orange with big solid head. Completely dominated by cascade hops, but not over the top bitter. Tasty.
