Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with some floating sediment and a light brow head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of bread with a bit some earthy fruits and a woody backing. Flavor has a good amount of sweet bread with a bit of earthiness and a bit of grass backing.

2007 bottle, original imported batch to the U.S., drunk 2010
Figured this was big enough that it may benefit from some age on it. The pour was quite a deep mahogany brown with auburn highlights. Clear, leaving the sediment behind and a large beige head recedes steadily to cover.
Honey, caramel, toffee, prunes and just a hint of roasty/ashy coffee. Traces of yellow fruits that must have been more dominant when young but have no faded in to the caramel and just add to the maltiness. High strength of aroma, with alcohol present but thankfully adding dryness and very easily balanced by the malt.
In the mouth, it’s sweet, chewy, rich and thick. Some light oxidation going on, adding dried raisins and lots of plummy flavors. Tons of creamy vanilla-like malt sweetness clear to the finish, with black pepper phenols and alcohol attempting to balance. For the most part it does, though the beer still leans heavily to the sweet side. Has all the dark fruits, rich malt, phenols and alcohol of a BSA, but nothing really sets it apart, otherwise, from the rest of the pack.

Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Bottle aged appx. 2.5 years. Pours lightly hazed auburn with a frothy, off-white head. Tangy berries on the nose with mild funky twang, a bit of old leather. Medium sweet flavor with lightly aged, leathery fruits, hints of barnyard, plums, mild figs, cherries, subtle wood, melon and bubblegum. Medium to full bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with suggestions of woody bitterness, slight bretty diapers, well-ripened berries, some cherries, plums. Quite tasty and very drinkable for the strength. Has just a subtle bit of oud bruin character, which I like. Good depth, nice balance. Solid.

Corpo medio, carbonazione media, grande beva. Eccellente belgian strong ale, Montegioco si conferma su standard altissimi!

Tap at Ma Che, Trastevere Roma - 03/10/12. Opaque murky amber/brown with a big frothy tan head. Good lacing ensues. Fruit tones on the nose, apple, prunes, rhubarb, a little toffee, bread and spice. Tastes of toffee fudge, dates, prunes, orange pith, cinammon and a touch of alcohol. Fullish bodied with fine carbonation leading to a smooth and sweet finish with a pinch of spice.

Bottle at GBBF 2012. It pours murky amber, with a thick yellow-white head. The nose is cake, brown bread, sweet dark fruit, brown sugar and light spice. The taste is caramel, plum, prune, date, red grape, brown sugar and maple syrup, with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly syrupy mouth-feel. A pleasant strong ale.
