Sometimes known as Kinmount Willie Oatmeal Stout in the US.
Brewed to the exacting standards of Robert Younger, great grandfather of the founder of Broughton brewery. This rich stout is bursting with the flavours of roasted barley and black malt. The excellent hop bitterness is offset by the silky mouth feel of oats.
Major ingredients are:
Optic Pale Ale Malt, Black Malt, Roasted Barley, Pinhead Oats. Hops used are English grown Fuggles, First Gold and Challenger.

500 ml bottle, bought at Vinens Verden, Odense, Denmark. Black (= very dark ruby) colour, good tan head. Pleasant aroma: chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, prunes, leather. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, faintly acidic. Mellow flavour of roasted barley / dark malts, low bitterness. Not too much going on flavourwise, does not quite live up to the expectations the aroma creates.

Very black stout, no head. Small roasted aroma but with minimum flavour, however it is certainly a drinkable session ale.

Opaque dark brown beer, short lived tan head. Light palate with mild carbonation. Mild dark malts with traces of coffee and chocolate. Very minerally, leading to a metallic note before the finish.

500ml bottle. Labeled as “Kinmount Willie” Perfect poor into an English pint. Lush, thick tan head. Spotty retention. Nice looking stout. All aromas are real light. Chocolate malt and light coffee and cream nose. Flavor is an exact copy of the aroma. Mild brown sugar. Texture is creamy with a dry finish. This would be significantly better on cask. Other than a thin body; no problems at all. Can be enjoyable.

Tall brown 500ml bottle, best before the end of March 2011, drank and reviewed on 18th Jan 2011. Poured into a UK pint, sleeve glass: Very dark body, almost jet black, held up to a light source however the true deep ruby red colour comes through. The head was a rich foaming blanket of tan coloured foam. The aroma was of roasted malts, not a lot of sweetness or hop smells. The taste was all malts, like the smell, fairly dry and with a bitter finish. I thought the body a wee bit thin for a stout and lacking in depth or creaminess. Well carbonated but the flavours in the beer are one dimensional and didn’t excite me at all.

Bottle from Gordon and MacPhail, Elgin. Appearance - very dark brown with ruby edges, 1 finger off white head. Aroma - roast malt, milk chocolate, hint of coffee. Taste - sweet malt, roast malt, some bitter hop, hint of coffee and chocolate, bit disappointing after inital aroma. Palate - watery for stout, quite thin mouthfeel, dull finish slight roast and hop bitterness. Overall - Quite a nice beer, but as a stout rather bland and watery, not much silkiness from the oats, flavours a bit too subdued. An above-average beer, but as a stout below average.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber brown color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate flavor with some hints of caramel Has a roasted malty chocolate finish.

500 ml bottle in Edinburgh. Pitch black with a fine, tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, cereals, chocolate, and coffee. Rich roasted flavor, biscuity and with nice cereal grain tastes. Medium to heavier body. Dry and rich, with a roasted, malty, bready finish. Excellent.

03/03 0.5 l bottle courtesy of Doggythedog, thanks for sharing! It poured dark brown, almost black body with small brown head. Fine coffee, wood, caramel and peat (even smoked meat) scents perspire from the glass. Similar very fine flavor, except mentioned things showed up some chocolate as well. Balanced between sour and sweet, in yet thinner body, it had sourish coffee and smoked finish. This nice brew made me like the brewery for the beer itself, after I was first attracted with nice labels, well, what can I do when I like Oatmeal Stouts!
