Charlatan – inspired by the sheer creativity of the beautiful young lady who in 1817 was bored of her mundane life of servitude (one would assume) and in craving a bit of excitement and fame, ‘washed herself up’ on the shores of Bristol after fleeing her pirate captors, where, speaking an incomprehensible language and wearing exotic clothes, was in time, understood to be Princess Caraboo of the far-off Kingdom of Jusava! Her notoriety however lead to her charlatan ways being exposed, when a previous employer recognised her as Mary Baker, a cobbler’s daughter from Devon! In honour of Mary enjoy a pint of this fruity and spicy Saison.

At the brewpub, Bristol April 2015. Hazy gold in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Some floral hops, a slightly perfumed edge, grainy malts, apricot fruits and an easy finish. Good.
