After 18 years with the business, what better way to salute one of our longest serving colleagues, than with his very own beer?
John Lansdall first joined Bath Ales in its infancy back in 1997, when the brewery was just finding its feet.
John takes the term, ‘Jack of all trades’, to a whole new level. As landlord of The Hare on the Hill, John quickly became a legend in his apron! Boy he kept his beer well and won CAMRA Pub of the Year, straight off. John then went on to manage The Swan in Swineford and The Merchants Arms in Hotwells. More recently John has been stalwart of the beer delivery team.
Known for his no-nonsense, conscientious and dependable character, Big John has unquestionably left his mark at Bath Ales and will be sorely missed by all the staff and customers!
Big John, Berlingo’s big best bitter, will be available for a limited time only in selected pubs including The Hare on the Hill, The Hop Pole, The Wellington and Beerd. Enjoy the beer which has been brewed specially to celebrate the legend that is Big John! Have a long and happy retirement John, you deserve it!

Cask-conditioned at Beerd, Bristol 27/1/2015. Copper coloured with a decent, beige, head. Typically sweet Bath Ales beer, with plenty of caramel, a touch of butter, berries and moderately bitter finish. Not the best of beers, a shame as the man who it was brewed in honour of, John Lansdall, was a great landlord of the Hare on the Hill.
