Ever since the Viking era, the Christmas beer tradition has been strong in Norway. As stated in the 'Gulatingsloven' (a regional law text valid until 1274), every farmer was bound by the law to brew beer for Christmas and christen it according to the new faith, otherwise running the risk of losing his assets to the king and bishop. The Christmas beer was normally brewed from the best grain of the season and would be strong with a rich malt flavour. Ringnes Juleøl Sterk (Christmas Strong Beer) is a modern version of the traditional Norwegian Christmas beer of higher alcohol content.

With a deep mahogany colour, Ringnes Juleøl Sterk has a rich malty aroma marked by dry caramel, toffee, chocolate, dried dark berries and nuts. The taste is rich with and full-bodied with a low, but smooth bitterness.

Rødbrun klar med lite beige skum. Malt, karamell. Søt karamell i smaken. Lite bitter, ganske død.

Bra nok, men med et snev av hva jeg tenker på som lagringsskade når jeg finner det i kjemmebrygg. Oksydert?

Bottle very kindly passed on by Rune & Finn, at Kernel Brewery November 2012. Cheers Rune & Finn. I decided to retire from rating back in October 2012, however will occasionally rate when people have been kind enough to pass on beer or if I just fancy it. Consumed Sunday 9th December 2012 Pours looking like tamarind water, sort of caramel brown with not too much carbonation. There is also caramel in the mouth but also a light metallic twang, not too sticky or heavy, but there is a distinct seasonal feel about this beer. Plenty of demerara sugar and dark molasses. Ubalansert.

33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet, Rygge (2011 edt. - 6,3% ABV).
Clear dark brown with a reddish hue and a small beige head. Malty aroma with dark dried fruits and caramel with just a hint of spices and roastiness. Sweet and caramelly with raisin favour and a lightly bitter finish with hints of spices. Quite standard industrial christmas brew. Fairly well balanced. Decent beer, but I prefer the Ringnes Julebokk. --- Beer merged from original tick of Juleøl Sterk on 26 Jun 2018 at 22:44 - Score: 5

More sweet malt in the mouth along with berries and a hint of dried fruit and apricot. Mild and balanced bitterness. Watery and some slick mouthfeel. Tap @ Henrik, Bergen. This is a clear nutty brown beer with a big nice off-white head. The aroma is sweet and malty, almost a bit vinious and woody also. Quite different from anything else I've had from Ringnes. Soft to average carbonation levels and a light sticky to slick mouthfeel. Young malty and kinda sweet flavors with a light burned hint in the background. Ends light watery and a bit sweet. Not bad actually this one from the big co.
