Chocolate brown with red highlights; yellow-brown, small head. Vinous, brandy, or even whisky-like, bit smoked - as in peaty. Alcohol comes out in force but in a refined way. Sweet-vinous flavours, somewhere halfway portwine & brandy. Lots of malt, but hints of the juice of the grape as well. Alcohol very obvious, ending in a drier way. Velvety, but oh so fierce, yet it has a carbonated, titillating MF. Impressive brew, better than their usual specials. Many thanks to whomever Britton that bestowed it on me at LCRBM

Dark brown color; creamy head. Confusing aroma, with some malt, apples, vanilla, bubblegum; it’s even a bit cheesy. Good body structure, sweet and almost sticky; it flows silky on the tongue, leaving a caramel track that becomes more and more defined, turning into some roasted malt and dark chocolate too; there is also a light liquorice. At the end the bitterness level is correct, maybe with too much alcohol. Not listed as Barley Wine in my personal database, as I don’t fancy too much the delicate roasted malt / dark chocolate aftertaste; it’s still a good relaxation beer, even if not too complex.

Bottle, at RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. ABV is 9%. Deep reddish brown to ruby colour. Very oaky and malty aroma and flavour, with plenty of caramel.

Bottled at RBESG ’07. Nut brown, brief head. Sweet and full bodied. Woody and chocolatey, malty and warming. Fairly swet with thick mouthfeel. Good!

Bottle at home ... brown with a red tinge ... malt nose with a little fruit and some tcp ... lots of fruity malts ... quite sweet ... little caramel ... little meaty ... little rum ... some sour raisins ... rich syrup. This looks like it might age well and i will tell you in a few years :-) Bottle at home apr 2014... dark brown ... thin tan lacing ... sweet sweet berries and ovaltine yeast nose ... dark roast ... sweuet berries .. tiny touch of sweet soya ... ligthest cardboard .. big honey ... dark malts .. Bottle at ...july 2014 Deep brown... Thin tan lacing.... Soft dark berries... Light cardboard nose... Soft sweet toffee fruit... Again cardboard... Blackcurrant ovaltine bottle at home Sept 2014 ... deep brown ... thin cardboard ... blackcurrant nose ... sweet malts... soft toffee roast ... again soft cardbpoard .. lightest soya ... nice 3.4 bottle at home ...
