Gravensteenbier Tripel

Commissioned for De Hopduvel in Ghent, with off-white, thick, sticky head and peach blonde colour, misty. Fruity, malt sweet taste, yeasty, rather bland and boring, mild hoppy finish.

Bottle. Unclear medium orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light malty, toasted, tart fruity, moderate yeasty, notes of sour milk - butter. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to light, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. (100408)

Rather aged sample Fully hazy, U.F.O.-ridden, greey-orange beer, overly carbonated with a very small, dirty-yellow head. Sweet-sourish, pickles, nettles or other unwanted greenery. Very nutty, sweet-old overoxydized malt notes. Despite the vociferous carbonation, the spirit of the beer is gone. A beer that didn’t stand up to its age. If I find it fresh again, it will mean a new rating. But I fear this is getting characteristic for VS beers...

(Bottle 33 cl) Hazy, dark golden beer with a huge, frothy head and lots of carbonation. Fresh, fruity nose and lots of malt in the flavour. Light sweetness and a limited bitterness. Not at all a bad brew - this is nice. 040798
