The magical story of the mighty Black Pot is about to unveil. Only the privileged get to read it. Only the open minded get to enjoy it!
Long, long ago when the black wizard last opened his magical book of sorcery, a frail piece of paper fell out. Buried deep in the lost caverns, that paper should have found its end there, together with the spirit of its keeper. But, by fate - or something else - this never happened. Once the wind made it through a narrow space and caught the paper, its journey began. It traveled the world, visited places where the best ingredients grow and encountered many gifted people in its path.
And then it reached us. We need to be honest here: we got lucky, real lucky. Finding this recipe was close to a mere walk in the park because actually, it found us.
We did our best to dust it off and decipher the sophisticated writing. Once we grasped the meaning, we held it close to our chests, grudging that we were about to share it.
But heck, we love you guys, so here it is: The Black Pot.
This bold, pitch black, viscous liquid is a statement of our love. You can surely keep it a buried in a hidden well-cooled place to age. You can enjoy it fresh. It will tell a different story every time.

MAR-2019. Fresh Batch #3/2019. Pitch black, as dark a head as can bee. The aroma starts really hoppy, green hop matter, spicy grass, olive brine. The hops are still all over the malts. Even the roast barley is too shy to come through. Needs a bit more age, I think. No alcohol whatsoever. Warming does not seem to change the aroma much. Tastes like a great balanced not too aggressive impy - moderate dark sugar / dark fruit sweetness, light acrid roast, light hoppy bitterness. A great silky full body without being a slightest bit sticky, really drinkable. But... the tart green vegetable hops are here as well, not doing the overall profile much flavour. It's no pine resins, no clean alpha acids, just mostly green hops. So, in the end, this Pot is a little less aggressive than its predecessors and... it is simply too fresh at this moment in time. A very solid impy. Will come back in a few months... Stay tuned. 7-5-7-5-15=3,9.
MAR-2019. Bacth #2/2018. Pitch thick rich black, dark espresso head. The aroma is full on dark plums, treacle and caramel, all kinds of dark fruit. Clean rich and sticky. No alcohol. The flavour is on the sweeter side as well, but on the good side of the sugar plateau. Not a miserable Dark Lord style sugar bomb - a nice round dark sugar, with a little plum and even some hops leftovers end. It is a bit sticky, yeah. A great beer, and unlike the the fresh one that needs time, this one is a bit past its prime. I need to mention that, apart from loosing hops and balance, it has no long time defects whatsoever. 9-5-7-4-15=4,0.
APR-2018. Batch 2 at 10,5% abv. Pitch black, dark espresso head. Dark roasty aroma, with little perceived sweetness, some warming alcohol and a nice hoppy note. The taste is of a nice honest and well balanced impy, without going to extremes - restrained sweetness of dark chocolate and caramelized sugars, a light hint of marshmallows, some heat, and just the right amount of hoppy resins. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Might not be as impressive as last year's batch, but a great stout nevertheless. 8-4-8-4-16=4,0
DEC-2018. BOTTLE 33 CL. Batch 1. Pitch black, thick and inky, sticky espresso head. The aroma is pretty big on jammy dark fruit, sticky dark malts, some salty rubber. Super intense taste, with a silky and relatively easy drinking body. Quite a bit of dark fruit and molasses, big black somewhat pungent bitterness with a touch of warming alcohol. A little bit of residual sugar in the aftertaste. Seems to keep well or even improve. 8-5-8-4-16=4,1.
APR-2018. BOTTLE 33 CL. Batch 1. Pitch black, dark espresso head. Dark chocolate nose, not very powerful and a little boozy. Hints of clove, leather, tobacco and that kind of thing. Really big dark chocolate and treacle flavour, big acid roast, intense without being cloying. Solid alcohol and bitter kick - a bit too boozy this time. Some ashes. Very good. 7-5-8-4-16=4,0
6-APR-2017. BOTTLE 33 CL. Batch 1. Pitch black, darkest tan head I’ve ever seen. Rich dark malty aroma, black chocolate, treacle, but also quite spicy and leathery, even salty. Slightest hint if warming booze. Just a little but meaty/yeasty. The taste is rich and inky, smooth dark chocolate without being a slightest bit sticky or sweet. Smooth as silk. Perfectly balancing peppery hop bitterness, just the right amount of alcoholic burn. Among the best of breed. 7-5-9-5-16=4,2

33cl bottle thanks to ciocanelu. Pitch black pour with a tall fine-grained tan head that is slow to rise to the surface and eventually gives way to a long-lasting lacing. Notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, molasses, licorice, roasted coffee beans, more dark chocolate, light vanilla. Full body, thick but not cloy, very roasty and chocolatey, well-balanced and lightly smokey, the alcohol being very well hidden. One of the best plain Russian imperial stouts I have ever had. --- Beer merged from original tick of The Black Pot on 04 Apr 2017 at 15:13 - Score: .
