A Scottish stout with a wonderful rich dark colour. A smooth full bodied beer with subtle bitterness giving way to late sweetness and underlying roast barley hints.

Cask at GBBF 2011 (as well as many previous occasions). It pours opaque black, with a thick foamy light tan head. The nose is smoke, bonfire, toasted sesame seed, milk chocolate and toffee. The taste is caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, smoke, peat, lactose and dark fruit. Medium body and low carbonation. Good balance. Smooth, drinkable and very flavoursome. A great beer.

Cask, gravity at a pre-Candleford Beer Festival tasting 09.06.11 many thanks to John, Roger & all of the organisers for inviting me over Pours black with a tan head. Soft in the mouth, very easy going roastiness with coffee (cappuccino) and a light creaminess. Dangerously drinkable. Good stuff. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours dark brown with a slight, beige film. Sweet mocha aroma with hints of roast. Flvor is medium sweet with strong notes of maple syrup. Seriously, TONS of maple syrup. The roast character is there but not overbearing, light chocolate, tar and charred wood. Medium bodied with faint carbonation. Finishes sweet, lightly warming, a touch oily with dark malts, and water-tossed-on-burning-wood. Quite a dynamic stout that really picks up speed as you drink it. Very, very good.

(Cask at GBBF, London Earl’s Court, 4 Aug 2010) Black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, roasted malt, coffee and cocoa. Roasted, malty taste with dark bread, dried fruit, coffee, prunes and raisins. Medium body, fairly sweet with a nice, cocoa bitterness. Rather fruity and sweet for a stout, but nice and tasty.

Cask - I think it was at Marble Arch, Manchester. A black beer with a brown shine under a thin brown head. The aroma has notes fo malt - some sweet and some hard roasted, as well as notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, over ripe fruits, and alcohol, leading to a fruity finish. The mouthfeel is smooth.
