Back to Black is a dark brown, almost black, beer (9,5 % vol.alc.) that appeals to our imagination. Brewed with an IBU-bitterness of 100, the beer matures on foeder over a period of nine months before reaching it's unique taste.
Taste: This wayward porter brings you the perfect balance between sour- and bitterness.

Bottle, october 2017. Color: Dark ruby, creme head. Aroma: Sourish, dark fruit, funk. Taste: Complex, fruity notes of dried dark fruit, red fruit and berries, Brett funk, leather, roasted malt, wood. Moderate sour, lactic, lightly sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Bittery finish with cocoa and earthy hints. Hard to describe all flavours, but very nice, well balanced and complex.

Creamy off white head stayed on a very dark reddish brown still body. Dark berries, vinous, woody & dark spirit aroma. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated, creamy on the palate & a clean finish. Oaked woody tastes to the fore with malt, lactose & berries followed an incredibly vinous, dry sour back of cherry & under ripe berries. Similar to a Flemish Ale

Sample at SBWF 2018. Almost black with a small head. Nicely balanced with dark malt, tart berries, wood and some earth. The body was medium. A pleasant one.

(Bottle, 0.75 l, at Stadin Panimobaari, 20180911) The beer poured deep dark brown and hazy. Its head was medium sized and nearly white. Aroma had toasted malts, berries, fruitiness and earth. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, wood, burnt malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, woody and bitter. A complex brew and rather pleasant one.

Unusually brown for a porter. Aroma and flavour are very yeasty and very funky. Far too sharp. Really disappointing. I read later that this was made as an undrinkable bitter and then aged. Seems like a strange thing to do.

Bottle, 12C. Darkish brown with a small beige head that appears late. Aroma of dough, cherries (and cherry vinegar), wood, the forest floor, kefir. Light, somewhat slippery texture. Very low carbonation. Moody fruit, almost burnt toast, gentle sourness -- then quite strong bitterness, a boozy warmth and twiggy (tannic?) notes run away with it. I think this is from Oct 17 - I'd keep it a little longer next time to let the bitterness fade a bit more. Wouldn't be for everyone. Belongs in "Imperial Porter" as much as any beer does.
