Bitter was one of the first beers brewed by Brains back in 1882 and has stood the test of time as a mainstay of the brewery ever since. Traditionally in Cardiff, Bitter was always known as “Light”… because it wasn’t Dark!
With fruity pair drop notes in its body and a mildly toasted aroma, Bitter is an honest, crisp refreshing beer for everyday drinking.

Cardiff Mini-break Beer#5. Second beer in Wales, a local classic with an excellent hop-malt balance, but not quite the depth. I'm sure plenty is sold as a session beer though in these parts. Clear amber coloured, it has a lower-end bitterness. This is a re-rate for me from a decade or so ago.

On cask at Cambrian Tap, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out nothing but fungal notes, maybe bready malt. Flavour is pretty much tasteless — smooth at least. Useless even for the style.

Pint at The City Arms, Cardiff. An orange to amber somewhat hazy pour with half an inch of egg-white head. Aroma is dandelion, bread, toast, nuts. Taste is dry, watery, not really fresh (it lacks acidity.) Finish is much more bitter and long-lasting tan anticipated; with hints of dry lemon.

Clear and golden with a frothy white head and a light malt aroma. It's a little bit creamy with some hints of sweet biscuit and fruit and a very soft floral bitterness in the finish.

Cask at Cambrian Tap, Cardiff. Pours clear copper amber with a beige cap. Aroma: light malt/caramel. Taste: light sweet & bitter, light caramel, floral hop hints. Light to medium body with soft carbonation. Not much to it, but slips down easily enough.
