This special holiday porter is made for winter - rich and warming, the way they like it at the North Pole. It was inspired by this famous line from a well-loved children's storybook: "And Santa sat on his great butt, enjoying a hardy brew..." In case you find that amusing, the brewer hastens to point out that "butt" refers to a certain sized barrel customarily used for beer. Still snickering, eh? Get your mind out of the gutter, or Santa will be skipping your home entirely this year.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a mug.
The appearance was a dark brown color close to black the further towards the center. There was a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Light lacing slid into the beer.
The smell had some roasty coffee to chocolate qualities with a light cinnamon, nuts and caramel coming through.
The taste took those previously mentioned flavors and had them combined fairly well.
On the palate, this one sat right at a medium in body with a slight sessionable aspect about it. Carbonation was pretty subdued and smooth.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good porter to have again.

Bottle at home, thanks to my inlaws for another new Xmas gift rate, 01/01/14. Pours an extremely dark shade of mahogony brown with a moderate light beige covering. Nose is cardboard, light cocoa, earthy, touch of spice, dark fruit tang. Taste comprises toffee, nutty notes, earthy cocoa, brown sugars, faint roast. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish. Very mediocre porter, lacks any great depth and a little overly sweet.

Nose is roast, some coffee. Faded almost immediately. Taste is cola, leading to slight coffee, faint bread and yeast, a little pepper and spice in the finish. Bland. Mouthfeel is thin. This is really bland and not a porter, Iโ€™m surprised by the good reviews.

500ml bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais. Very dark brown with very thin beige head. Its an ok beer, with some malt. Not very exciting. Some milk choc. Some malt. Thatโ€™s about it.
