This special holiday porter is made for winter - rich and warming, the way they like it at the North Pole. It was inspired by this famous line from a well-loved children's storybook: "And Santa sat on his great butt, enjoying a hardy brew..." In case you find that amusing, the brewer hastens to point out that "butt" refers to a certain sized barrel customarily used for beer. Still snickering, eh? Get your mind out of the gutter, or Santa will be skipping your home entirely this year.

Location: 1/2 L bottle from State Line, 8/17/12
Aroma: The nose has lightly roasted malts, some vanilla, caramel, and some fruity notes
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a beige head and some nice, spotty lace
Flavor: The beer tastes light-medium sweet, with a hints of roastiness, and hardly any bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light, it has a fairly smooth feel on the mouth, and a lightly roasted finish
Overall Impression: I guess I should have been concerned when they'd dropped the price twice, but I can't resist a deal, and I'd been meaning to try this one for a while anyway. Well, it was wasn't worth much more then the $2 bucks I paid for it, this is a average beer. A rating of "3" seems just about perfect here.

Bottle. Pours black with off white head. Nose/taste mostly of smoked black and chocolate malts and dry barley. Some hops, probably fuggles in background. Very dry finish, which is mostly malt and barley. Medium body.

Bottle. It pours a clear, dark brown body and a small off-white to beige head. Raisins, prunes, roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate and a good dash of coffee in the aroma, quite pleasant, but nothing impressive in todays beer market. Medium to full body, Roasted flavor with dried fruits. Caramel and a little bitterness too. Lasting roasted finish with dried fruits. Overall, a bit too carbonated, but a pleasant English porter. Nothing very interesting though. 110122
