A Spring clean at Donnington Brewery near Stow on the Wold resulted in the discovery of the original brewing book recording its very first ale brewed on 27 May 1865. Exactly 145 years to the day, the team at Donnington Brewery celebrated the discovery and brewed a special Founders Ale.
Brewed with Cotswold spring water using a water wheel for mashing and pumping with Maris Otter, English Goldings and Willamette hops in the Hopback. This gives a straw coloured Summer Ale with a strong Styrian hop flavour, coming through on the palate.

Bottle from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham. Amber in colour with a decent, off-white head and lively carbonation. Aroma was sweetish, with cocoa powder and some caramel, with a touch of grassy hop. Light, easy drinking character, with more caramel, earthy malts and a lingering bitter finish. Good.
