Ever since the Viking era, the Christmas beer tradition has been strong in Norway. As stated in the 'Gulatingsloven' (a regional law text valid until 1274), every farmer was bound by the law to brew beer for Christmas and christen it according to the new faith, otherwise running the risk of losing his assets to the king and bishop. The Christmas beer was normally brewed from the best grain of the season and would be strong with a rich malt flavour. Ringnes Juleøl (Christmas Beer) is a modern version of the traditional Norwegian Christmas beer of average alcohol content.
Ringnes Christmas Beer has a golden red colour with a malty aroma marked by caramel, freshly baked bread and raisins. The beer has a light, smooth malty sweetness and a low, yet noticeable bitterness.

Clear amber color, good beige head. Lollipop caramelly aroma. Quite watery palate. Flavor is caramelly with hints of malts. Low bitterness. Malty-sweet aftertaste. Plain, but unoffensive.

Can 50 cl. Dark red, clear with a minimal offwhite head. Aroma; malt and caramel. Flavor; sweet malty and again caramel, with a not so good bitter aftertaste.

Bottle. [ Thanks to Enjoyit ] Clear medium amber color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, old malt. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. (271007)

330ml bottle. Copper brown body with a creamy odd-white head. Aroma has caramel, slightly roasted malt and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is rather sweet, malt, some bitternes and actually some alcohol. To watery body and to easy to forget.

330ml bottle consumed at home. Clear, dark brown red-tinged in colour. Fast fading foam. Fresh, but very weak malty smell. Sweet malty flavour with notes of roasted caramel. Dry ending. Ringnes has better yuletide brews than this (24.11.2006).

An amber beer with a nice beige head. The aroma is lightly sweet with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of caramel, but also light notes of metal. The end is sweet and dry. Fine without being anything spectacular.

(Bottle 33 cl) Beautiful, clear amber with a white head. Vague touches of caramel in the aroma. Rather light-bodied with pleasant accents of caramel, and then nothing much more really. Ends without any real feel of hops. 170406

Medium white creamy head; clear chestnut brown body. Aroma of sweet malts and some hops, with hints of roastiness. Taste is clean, light and sweet, faintly watery, with some maltiness and faint roastiness. Aftertaste is pretty faint. A well-made beer, having nothing wrong with it, but definitely intended to please the Norwegian market by tasting as little as a Christmas beer could possibly get away with.
