Bomber picked up from the brewery yesterday - not sure if this should be listed as a wheat wine instead (the label calls it a "hefewein") - it has enough hefe character to justify the current designation, I suppose - turbid gold - fizzy, poory sustained head - aroma is medium sweet, with some notes of apricot and complex phenol character (pepper/spice, strong clove, banana) - it actually smells pretty damn good - medium body - the alcohol is fairly well masked, but there is a great deal of sweetness here - perhaps too much, as the whole middle tastes rather sugary - those strong phenols kick in near the finish, though, bringing some spiciness and strong clove flavors - that sugar sweetness just hangs on, though, lingering long into the finish - a nice attempt, just so damn sweet and lacking the body or complexity you’d want from such a weighty brew.
