Thanks to PilsnerPeter for cluing me in to this beer - Blue Point barely ever makes a new beer, and when I heard of its existence, I ran down to the brewery to get a growler - this is one murky, turbid, dark amber beer - fizzy carbonation that fails to produce much of a head - the aroma is mostly clove, but underneath that is some really off-putting phenolic character that smells like burnt tire rubber - the body is very light, with tingly carbonation - moderate wheaty tang and grainy flavors - strong clove and moderate cocoa, with a little bit of hard water/mineral quality - those tire rubber phenols show up in the finish - they are mild, but present enough to make the beer far less enjoyable - Blue Point really needs to work on this band aid/rubber/unwanted phenols issue in their beer - it has been a problem for years, and apparently they don’t seem to give a crap - now I have a whole growler of liquid tire fire to drink.
