Very dark ruby ale brewed using 6 different malts including chocolate malts, black malts and roasted barley. Generously hopped with a mix of Columbus, Cascade, Galaxy and Green Bullet. Flavours reminiscent of bitter chocolate, fruitcake and raisins, with beautiful aromas of dark chocolate, coffee and burnt toast. A beast of a brew!

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Practically black with a small creamy off-white head. Strong and not as stout-like as you might want it to be with a small roasted nose, but a more hoppy taste with a berry sweetness in its aroma and taste.

Cask at the Post Office Valults, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a round bubbly off white head. The aroma is big liqourice malt. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a rich malt, molasses light red berry fruit, light alcohol palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at NWAF, Derby, 2014. Mahogany coloured pour with a beige head. Blackberry jam and forest fruit aroma. Licorice toffee, dark fruit and chocolate flavour. Malt laden mouthfeel. Quite nice.

Cask at Pig n Falcon, St Neots. Pours black with a wonderful little head. Faint but enticing aroma of grassy hop. Taste is surprisingly hoppy and bittersweet. Tastes a bit like a stout & a bit like a black IPA! Wicked! Sweet fruity finish and aftertaste is incredible.

On gravity from Oktoberfest @ Hull University - not the most appealing look, dull black with a little beige froth, but being a gravity pour I’ll forgive that. Lots of rich liquorice and coffee in the nose, with an oily mouthfeel, and a rich bitter fruity finish. I like this a lot and would probably rate higher if it had the luxury of a cask pull

Cask at Cloisters, Edinburgh - 08/12/12. Opaque dark chestnut brown with a medium sized tan thad that retains very well. Nose is dark malts, light toffee, touch of coffee. Taste comprises dark malts, a little wood, touch of spice, toffee. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, some bitterness in the dry finish.

Cask @ 12th Ayrshire Real Ale Festival, Troon 2011. Dark brown - ruby red colour, beige head. Nose is deep roasted malts, coffee, bit of lemon and fres soap, citrus. Flavour is deep roasted malts, coffee, liquorice, little vanilla, hoppy, citrus. Packed with flavour at only 6.7%. This is a real gem that can challenge most imperial stouts in flavour, but definitely can top them in drinkability. Superb.

[Gravity cask at Chippenham Beer Festival] Brownish-black with a small off-white head. Smells of raspberry leaves and blackcurrant. Raspberry leaf continues into the flavour, with roasted malt, a bit of chocolate and some pepper in the finish. Very dry. Not convinced on this one.

6th August 2008. On tap at GBBF. Sweet subtle fruit - strawberry and a hint of blueberry, well blended with toffeeish malt. Finish is dry toffee malt. Very good falvour profile, no bitterness.

Cask at the Pembury Tavern, London on 19th June 2009. Intensely dark, quickly diminshing magnolia-coloured head. Strong coffee aroma, roasted malt in the kick which is augmented by bitter hop notes and a hint of peppery piquancy. Goes to a long, sustained bitter finish with the roasted malt flavours remaining throughout. A delicious stout, which I enjoyed very much.
