Sample at the taproom during the "Bottle Release - Name Your Own Beer" event on 03/24/2017. Brown-black color with a hint of ruby around the edges, and a medium khaki head that diminishes gradually to an outer ring. Strings of lacing. Roast malt, dark chocolate and coffee in the nose. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, earthy coffee and bittersweet coffee. The finish is roasty with a malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

10 ounce at the brewery - dark ruby pour, nearly black - nose has some chocolate, but also some brighter notes of berry - but the flavor and mouthfeel is where it really shines - creamy, full texture - sweet, but with a balancing acidity, neither of which dominate - flavored of tart cherry (pits and all), light berry, chocolate, vanilla, some espresso - this is really well executed - nice balance, lovely texture - nice tart earthy complexities in what can become a one dimensional and overly sweet style.
